The story of Prometheus Bound has always grabbed me -- particularly the notion of stealing "fire" from the gods in order to share it with mankind. To me, Prometheus represents someone who took a huge risk on behalf of all of mankind in defiance of the gods, providing the human race with with enlightenment and access to the arts and sciences. He exercised his free will and was punished for it. And yet he did not regret his action. We eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge, though the gods do not desire us to gain access to this world. We are given access to the world of the idea, thereby achieving a modicum of immortality despite the mortality underlying the human condition.
